Wessie’s Den, a pub with a video and pinball arcade, closed its doors for good on Oct. 31.

“We have had a great time meeting all of our amazing patrons over the past (almost) 4 years and being part of the Westbrook community,” read a social media post announcing the owners’ decision to close.

Owners Kurt Smith, Scott Smith and Marc Cole opened the “barcade” in February 2022, in the former site of Live@212. At the time, they said they aimed to help revitalize Brown Street.

The venue was named for the exotic 10-foot-long snake that caused a sensation — and even made national news — when it was reported to have been seen over several weeks in 2016 in the nearby Presumpscot River. Wessie’s regularly held pinball tournaments and was used as a competition venue for the New England Pinball League.

The owners could not be reached before deadline for further details on the the closure. Their social media post said they’d like to sell the business.

“If anyone out there has any interest in carrying the torch forward please reach out,” the post stated. “We would love to see someone else carry on the Wessie’s name.”
