An Indian fusion restaurant aims to open on Congress Street in November in the former home of Rebel Munchies and Libations.

Wow India Fusion Restaurant and Bar is taking over the 3,000-square-foot space, 50-seat space at 649 Congress St. in Portland.

Chef-owner Prakash Jayavelu Singh said his menu will feature a mix of traditional Indian dishes as well as dishes that meld Indian flavors with other world cuisines, such as Indian pizzas (using naan bread topped with tikka masala sauce as the base), Indian tacos filled with items like tandoori chicken and paneer cheese, masala arancini and chilli garlic edamame.

The restaurant will also have a full bar with wine, beer and cocktails featuring Indian flavorings, like a saffron gin and tonic and a mango masala mule, according to the permit application Wow India filed with the city.

Singh came to the United States in 2011, and has more than 17 years culinary experience, including serving as a chef for the U.S. Army in Afghanistan. He has also worked as a chef at various hotels and on cruise lines.

Singh expects Wow India will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
