Lee Frank’s, a popular burger joint based in South Berwick, recently closed its Wells location after less than a year.

The Wells Lee Frank’s launched at 231 Post Road in October 2024, in the former location of the also short-lived restaurant Gravy. Lee Frank’s opened a third location in Exeter, New Hampshire, this summer. Both the Exeter and South Berwick locations remain open.

A post Monday on the Facebook page for Lee Frank’s Wells stated, “We have made the tough decision to permanently close our Wells location. We thank you for your patronage and support and hope to see you at our South Berwick or Exeter locations.”

Lee Frank’s specializes in California burger joint-style smash burgers, along with hot dogs and fries. Owner Lee Frank could not be reached before deadline to explain the reasons for the closure.
