New breakfast and lunch restaurant Henny’s opened Tuesday in Portland’s West End, in the former home of the Ohno Café.
Located at 87 Brackett St., the 1,100-square-foot space has 26 seats.
“It’s a quick breakfast and lunch spot where you can get in and out quickly and have food that’s made fresh daily. There’s a big void in breakfast in Portland,” said Kenny Chestnut, who co-owns Henny’s with his wife, Heidi, explaining that he believes the city lacks places for fast, fresh breakfasts. “I never go anywhere where I’m not waiting more than an hour, and hour and a half.”
Henny’s breakfast offerings include Henny’s Benny ($9), a sandwich version of eggs Benedict, and the Mill Stack ($9), a waffle sandwich filled with fried egg, sausage, blackberry jam and cheddar. Chestnut cooked the past couple of years at Munjoy Hill’s Hilltop Superette, and is originally from North Carolina. Heidi Chestnut grew up in Hallowell; the couple shares kitchen duties.
The lunch menu features a variety of sandwiches, including a BLT ($10), an egg-topped cheeseburger ($11) and a Bollywood Melt ($15), a grilled cheese with samosas from Taj Indian Cuisine in South Portland. The restaurant offers vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free dishes as well.
Henny’s is open seven days from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
