A growing superfood fruit bowl chain recently launched a new location in Westbrook Crossing.

Oola Bowls specializes in bowls and smoothies and fruit puree soft-serve swirls featuring acai and pitaya (dragonfruit), nutrient-dense and antioxidant rich fruits the company sources from Brazil.

“It is so great to see that people are focused on the healthy living,” said the store’s general manager, Rick McIsaac, whose professional  background includes 30 years as director of nutritional services at Boston hospitals. “But they’re also realizing it’s an alternate to a sweet treat.”

Oola — the name refers to the phrase “ooh-la-la” — is a Pennsylvania-based company that started in 2018 and now has 20 locations in five states. Oola is expanding its presence in New England, with a second Massachusetts location coming soon as well as a shop in Portland at 1 Monument Square, expected to launch in September.

Oola’s location at 11 Main St. in Westbrook offers about 16 seats and counter service. Oola Bowls is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
