I thank the town of Cape Elizabeth for the Beach to Beacon Race last weekend. I also thank the organizers, the volunteers, the runners and the townspeople who stand along the road: waving, ringing bells, applauding, shouting encouragement, giving out water, sharing high fives, for a day of pure joy.
The organization of all the disparate arms is of heroic proportions. From the traffic directors and the shirt dispensers, from the finance people to the publicity groups, from the sponsors to the empty cup retrievers, from the reservation takers to the emergency medical teams, and from Joanie Benoit Samuelson to the lady who directs us to the bananas and blueberries, these people interact with the panache of super heroes — and always a smile.
I thank them all. Until next year!
