River Arts will host Ruth Monsell’s upcoming solo show, “Celebrating 25 Years in Maine: Works in Oil and Cut Paper,” from June 5-25. An opening reception will the artist is from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 7.

Monsell’s passion for the French impressionists shines through in her work engaging the viewer and spreading light and joy, River Arts said in a prepared release.
Monsell has been a Maine resident since 2000. She recently participated in Bowdoin College’s 100th anniversary of the Hawthorne-Longfellow Library, with original silhouettes of the two writers as Bowdoin undergraduates on view.
Monsell has been an artist since she “could hold a crayon,” she said in a news release, and has increased her art making markedly in the past two decades.
River Arts is located at 36 Elm St. in Damariscotta. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 563-6868 or visit riverartsme.org.
