Amy Rochelle (Glickfeld) Puleo

BATH – Amy Rochelle (Glickfeld) Puleo, 76, of Bath, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025. At the time of her passing, she lived in Massachusetts to be closer to her beloved family (don’t hold it against her, it was her daughter’s idea to move there).

Amy was born on July 30, 1948, on an extremely hot day in Far Rockaway, Queens, N.Y. to Lillian and Alfred Glickfeld. She spent her childhood behind the counter of her father’s deli and tagging along to pick up fresh bagels, ruining her teeth at the penny candy store, sunbathing on the beach, and with her beloved cousins and grandparents. While attending Eastern Connecticut State University, she met Michael Puleo over a game of ping pong, which she immediately won. Michael challenged her to a rematch and the rest was history.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree, the couple married on June 28, 1970. They moved to Fort Fairfield to build a home and community. Amy taught those with special needs, beginning her career working with severely disabled children. She went on to work as a Special Education teacher at Mars Hill Elementary School, where she stayed for the rest of her 36-year career. In her retirement, she found joy in the Bath Arts community. She showed her paintings with the Sebascodegan Artists group and contributed to the coordination of the Bath Art Walk. She was also a long-time volunteer at the Chocolate Church Arts Center.

She is survived by her son, Jaime Puleo of Portland, her daughter, Sarah Puleo of Mansfield, Mass., her son-in-law, JJ O’Connell; and three grandchildren, who she described as Eloise (14) a naturally gifted artist, Willamina (9) a born performer, and Finnegan (8) who gives the best hugs. She is also survived by numerous friends who were like family.

She was predeceased by her husband, Micheal Puleo.

Amy took great pride in her paintings and flower gardens. She was loving and playful; a competitive rummy player who never let her daughter win; and a true friend. She will forever be dancing the Twist with Michael, painting the rocky coasts of Maine, and watching her family grow and prosper. She will be incredibly missed.

A memorial open house will be held Sunday, June 22, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at her home, 24 Spring St., Bath.

Amy asks that in place of flowers, a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital is appreciated.
