Participants can bring outdoors equipment such as skis, kayaks, tents, hike packs, snow shoes, etc., and can rent a table for $20 to set out gear to swap, trade, barter, buy or sell. There will be hot dogs, popcorn and drinks available. To reserve a table and for more information, contact Derek at dsmall.ndi@gmail.com.

Scouting Troop 648 has been active this year:

• February offered great conditions for winter camping; a dozen Scouts dressed warm and braved the sub-freezing elements while camping on the banks of Panther Pond in Raymond. Scoutmaster Madigan led activities focused on how to be effective leaders and communicators.

• On March 17, the troop spent an evening with the residents at Dionne Commons to focus on community service.

• On March, the troop visited a maple shack. Scouts learned how to identify common trees in the area and which ones provide sap, and witnessed the process of tapping a tree, harvesting the sap, components and operation of the boiler, and how to test the sugar content of the syrup.

• On April 10, the troop hosted a cross-over ceremony welcoming 10 individuals as they progressed on their Scouting journeys and moved from the pack to the troop.

• In June, 10 Scouts ranking 1st Class and above will traverse the Allagash Wilderness Waterway on a six-day excursion over 80 miles of paddling and portage.

• The Scouts are looking forward to September when they will summit Mt. Washington during a weekend hike-camp.
