Third Space Market, a specialty store offering food and gift items along with community gathering and coworking space, launched in Gorham on Tuesday.

The 1,100-square-foot space, at 18 Elm St., was formerly Carter’s Greenmarket. Staffer Tristan Littlefield, whose wife, Michelle, is the owner, said about half the venue is being used for retail. The other half seats up to 20 people at small cafe tables, couches, upholstered chairs and also desks, for anyone using the space for remote work.

The Littlefields and their kids have lived in Gorham for 12 years. “We like the community here, and we’ve noticed there aren’t a whole lot of places for remote workers to meet,” Tristan Littlefield said, noting that he and his wife have worked remotely for the past several years.

“Every time you try to get out the house for a business meeting, there is nowhere to go unless you go all the way to Portland,” he said. They hope the market can also host small event gatherings like book clubs and gaming groups.

The retail portion of the market offers a selection of mostly locally sourced food and beverages, including soda, kombucha, teas from Sweet Relief Farm in Standish, coffee from Carrabassett Coffee Company in Kingfield and Coffee Hound Coffee Co. in Brewer and grab-and-go sandwiches and salads from Chefette Toni.

Third Space Market stocks a selection of locally produced pantry goods including syrups, jams and jellies, pasta, hot sauces, MoMunch granola from Gorham and lava cake mixes from Jarva Cake in Kennebunk. The market also sells gifts such as toys, stuffed animals, jewelry, candles, bath and body goods, T-shirts, hats and bags.

The store is open Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
