PORTLAND – Carolyn “CJ” Warren Mowers, 77, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, in Portland, surrounded by family and loved ones after a brief illness.

She was born April 15, 1947 in Bangor, the daughter of the late Richard K. Warren and Joanne J. Van Namee. She graduated from Rogers Hall in Lowell, Mass. and attended The American School in Switzerland, later continuing her education at Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C. In 1989, CJ returned to her beloved home state of Maine, to Cape Elizabeth.

During the summer months, she cherished time spent at her camp on Phillips Lake in Dedham where she was a member of the Lucerne Beach Club. She adored her grandchildren and loved having ‘crazy hat nights’, playing Bingo and creating treasure hunts for them on the small islands around the lake. CJ loved going on kayak rides, spending time with her dear friend, Kathy Constantine, and tending to her breathtaking gardens and plants.

Since 1979, CJ worked for the Bangor Daily News, and in 2006, she joined the board of directors of the Bangor Publishing Co., the parent company of the BDN. At the time of her passing, she was serving as the chairman of the board.

CJ was predeceased by her longtime partner, Frederick Emery, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Scott W. Farley and her daughter, Jennifer E. Mowers, both of Cape Elizabeth; her bonus daughter, Baye, and her husband, Michael Larsen, of Darien, Conn.; her grandchildren Brett (and his wife Kirstin), Benjamin, and Bryan Farley of Michigan, Audrina Williams of Cape Elizabeth, Chase, Lily, and Eloise Larsen of Connecticut; her great-grandchildren, Beau and Brooks Farley of Michigan; her brother, Richard J.
