With reference to the announcement in the March 5 paper about print reductions and layoffs planned for the Maine Trust for Local News, I wonder if it has ever occurred to you that perhaps your dire financial situation has little to do with print versus digital, but everything to do with the fact that you offer a product that is only appealing to a segment of the population with very liberal leftist leanings. You have cut yourself off from readers who are more interested in honest, balanced, bipartisan reporting.
You may want to look into why Jeff Bezos, the owner of the Washington Post, recently instructed his opinion page personnel to pivot from self-styled leaders of the resistance to focus instead on “personal liberties and free markets.”
Papers like yours have spent the better part of a decade discrediting yourself trying to defeat Donald Trump and spewing disinformation, or no information when it came to Biden’s senility. In doing so, you became an organ of the Democratic Party while making yourself less and less relevant so that people don’t care anymore what you have to say.
