Café Luna in Scarborough plans to open a second location, this one in Falmouth, at the beginning of the summer.
The 2,400-square-foot space is located at 267 U.S. Route 1, and will be next door to Sapporo, the Japanese restaurant formerly based in Portland. Owner Juliann Joy said the new cafe will seat 35-40 customers and is nearly the same size as her Scarborough shop, which opened in January 2024.
Joy said expanding to Falmouth made sense for Café Luna in multiple ways. “Falmouth is really an up-and-coming new area,” Joy said. “A lot of Portland businesses are moving in that direction. And I’ve had so many customers in the last year beg us to open a place in Falmouth.”
Café Luna’s menu features a selection of smoothies, smoothie bowls, salads, toasts and sandwiches, all ranging from about $7-$15. Joy said some of the café’s most popular items include its Turkey Cheddar and Chicken Bacon Chipotle sandwiches, chopped salad, and avocado toast with hard-boiled egg and chipotle aioli.
“When we started in Scarborough, I wanted to design a menu that was a healthier grab-and-go option,” Joy explained, noting that the Falmouth shop will have the same menu. “I’ve been a resident of Scarborough for 25 years, and I just felt like we were missing a lot of that here.”
Café Luna serves a full line of coffee and espresso beverages featuring coffee from Milkweed Coffee Roasters in Buxton. The shop also sells a variety of customizable plant-based energy drinks by Lotus.
Joy said she hopes to open the Falmouth location by the end of May or early June.
