Eleanor Florence Desrochers
KENNEBUNK – Eleanor Florence Desrochers, 88, of Kennebunk died peacefully on Oct. 5, 2024.
Eleanor was born on Feb. 8, 1936, in Biddeford to William and Florence (Pinette) Velandry. She lived in Biddeford until the age of 12, then moved to Sanford in 1948 and graduated from Sanford High School. Eleanor was a tester at Sprague Electric and retired after 22 years of service.
Eleanor married Robert Desrochers on Nov. 26, 1959, at St. Ignatius Church. She was an active member of the Children of Mary in the parish. Her hobbies included traveling, playing Bingo, eating out, and attending the sporting events of her children and grandchildren. Eleanor was a “die-hard” Red Sox fan, referring to the players as “her boys.” Her favorite time of year was Christmas, as she loved gathering her family and giving gifts.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Deborah Adams and her husband, Mike of Springvale, Brenda Laplante and her husband, Rick of Lewiston, Mark Desrochers and his wife, Linda of Shapleigh and Dennis Desrochers of Sanford; grandchildren, Chris Richard, Amber Turner (Jeff), Jamie Pelletier (Mark), Matthew Laplante, Jonathan Desrochers (Amy), Danielle Meader (Eric), and Bryan Desrochers (Bree); great-grandchildren, Abby, Jackson, Barrett, Hailie, Bryce, and Wesley. She is also survived by her brother, Bill and his wife, Priscilla.
She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Robert “Bob” Desrochers; her son, Donald Desrochers; her parents William Velandry, Florence Pinette Velandry, Marie Velandry; and sister, Judith Ridley.
The family would like to thank the team at Kennebunk Center for Health and Rehabilitation. They became like a second family to Eleanor. Thank you also to Tina, Lucinda, and Christy of Constellation Hospice for their compassionate care at the end of her life.
Funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Saint Thérèse of Lisieux Parish-Holy Family Church, 66 North Ave., in Sanford. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale.
