Lorraine “Lorrie” M. Gaisford
TOPSHAM – After a short illness, Lorraine “Lorrie” M. Gaisford, 93, passed away peacefully, at home, with family at her bedside on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024.
She was born on April 15, 1931, in Westbrook, the daughter of Walter W. and Mildred M. Hayes Smith. She graduated from Standish High School in 1948 and Northeastern School of Business in 1950. She worked in Portland prior to her marriage in 1954 to Richard A. Gaisford. She lived in Newfoundland during her husband’s last five months in the U.S Navy; then in Providence, R.I., for two years before returning to Maine. They lived in the Portland area for several years before moving to Norway in 1962 where, for a time she worked in her husband’s accounting office.
Lorrie was a former organist and choir member in the Standish Congregational Church. She was a member of the Pine Tree Chapter O.E.S. She was a very active member of the Norway community as a member of the Second Congregational Church and its Women’ Fellowship group, belonged to the Browning Reading Club, was a corporator of Stephens Memorial Hospital, plus volunteered to provide transportation to people needing rides to doctor appointments in Norway as well as Lewiston and Portland.
She greatly enjoyed needlecraft, was a talented pianist, plus loved to travel. Together she and her husband made many trips to Canada, Europe and the Caribbean.
Lorrie was predeceased by her husband, son Scott, and daughter Barbara. She leaves her sister Lois McLellan of Yarmouth, daughter Diane and her husband Jack Sharkey, grandchildren, Nathan Suomela, Megan Littlefield, Raija Suomela, Tyler Littlefield; three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Standish Congregational Church on Oak Hill Road at 2 p.m., on October 19.
