AUGUSTA — The death of an Augusta man discovered Friday night on the side of Old Belgrade Road is being investigated as a homicide, according to officials.
Tyler Robinson, 34, was found near 42 Old Belgrade Road after a passing driver called 911 to report having seen a male on the side of the road at 10:09 p.m.
Efforts to revive Robinson were unsuccessful.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit responded after being notified by Augusta police, and the death was the subject of an investigation Friday night and throughout the weekend.
The Office of Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Saturday and deemed the death a homicide, according to Shannon Moss, spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety. Officials said not specify how Robinson was killed.
The incident was initially reported as a suspicious death, according to Augusta police dispatch records.
Several Augusta officers responded, some remaining at the scene into Saturday morning, although the case was later turned over to the Maine State Police, according to Augusta Deputy Chief Kevin Lully.
Police asked that anyone who was driving in the area between 9:30 and 10 p.m. Friday and who might have seen people running in the roadway call the state police at 207-624-7076.
Passersby reported a large police presence over the weekend in the area close to 42 Old Belgrade Road, including near a small Shovelhead Lane mobile home park, which is next to an apartment building and across Old Belgrade Road from Le Club Calumet’s Pete Gagne Memorial Sports Fields.
