Nick White hit a two-run single in the sixth inning as the Maine baseball team scored three times on its way to a 5-4 win over the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Friday in Newark, New Jersey.

Matt McElwain was 3 for 4 with an RBI for the Black Bears (25-18, 15-4 America East). Jeremiah Jenkins added two hits and scored a run, while Jake Rainess and Quinn McDaniel each hit a solo home run.

Austin Francis hit a two-run single in the eighth inning as NJIT (19-28, 8-11) pulled within one.

RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE 3, SOUTHERN MAINE 2: Cam Parrillo’s RBI single capped a two-run rally in the seventh inning, and Colin Gauthier pitched 5 2/3 scoreless innings in relief as the top-seeded Anchormen (30-12) beat third-seeded USM (18-21) in an elimination game at the Little East Conference tournament in Providence, Rhode Island.

USM led 2-0 after an RBI single by Jason Komulainen in the third inning and an RBI double by Tom Vesosky in the fourth, but the Huskies couldn’t tack on any more runs despite finishing with 12 hits. Vesosky was 4 for 5.

MIDDLEBURY 7, COLBY 6: Sammy Smith scored on a balk as the Panthers (26-9) scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Mules (24-11) in the double-elimination portion of the NESCAC tournament in Waterville.

Colby, the No. 2 seed in the East division, will play Bowdoin, at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in an elimination game. Middlebury, the No. 2 seed in the West, will play Tufts at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Mitchell Schroeder was 3 for 5 and scored three times for Middlebury.

Marcus Forrester had a pair of hits and an RBI for Colby.

TUFTS 13, BOWDOIN 6: Connor Davidson had three hits and three RBI as the Jumbos (28-9) beat the Polar Bears (18-14) in the double-elimination portion of the NESCAC tournament in Waterville.

Tufts, the No. 1 seed in the East, will play Middlebury at 2 p.m. Saturday. Bowdoin, the No. 4 seed in the East, will face Colby in an elimination game at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Kevin Murray hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning for Bowdoin.

Stephen Simoes was 2 for 5 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Polar Bears.

SOFTBALL

MAINE ELIMINATED: The Black Bears (16-39) fell behind 4-2 in the third inning and were eliminated from the America East softball tournament with a 5-3 loss to Albany in Baltimore.

The Black Bears beat Binghamton, 6-4, earlier in the day to advance to face Albany. Grace McGouldrick hit a three-run home run in the sixth inning to break a 3-3 tie for the Black Bears.

Against Albany, Maine took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when  Kelby Drews scored on a wild pitch. The Great Danes scored twice in the bottom of the inning to take the lead, but Maine tied it again in the second when Kyrah Haba-Dailey scored on an error. Albany took the lead in the third on a two-run single by Maddi Patrella and held on for the win.

BATES 1, AMHERST 0: Ella Maher hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to give the seventh-seeded Bobcats (16-16-1) a win over the second-seeded Mammoths (24-13) in the double-elimination portion of the NESCAC tournament in Medford, Massachusetts.

Kama Boswell walked to start the seventh, moved to second on a passed ball and to third on a single by Cassidy Musco.

The Bobcats advance to face the winner of Saturday’s game between No. 6 Trinity and No. 3 Williams, at 5 p.m. Saturday.
