Sybil W. Bannon

CUMBERLAND – Sybil W. Bannon, 95, of Cumberland died peacefully on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at Falmouth by the Sea following an extended illness.

Sybil was born in New York City on Feb. 4, 1928, the daughter of the late Charles Norman and Gertrude (Kroeger) Warry. She attended local schools and graduated from Bayside High School, Queens, N.Y., in the class of 1946.

While in high school, Sybil had a love of big band music and was able to convince the doorman that she was a reporter with her school paper and he let her in. She was very proud of the fact that she was able to interview the Dorsey brothers, Tommy and Jimmy. As young girl, her family moved all of the country. In 1971 she and her husband John moved to Cumberland Foreside and have called Maine home ever since.

She loved listening to the Big Band Music, an avid feeder and watcher of the birds at her home. She enjoyed working in the flower and vegetable gardens she had around her home and tending to the many plants she had all through her house. Her favorite passion was being a grandmother to her granddaughter Arya.

Sybil was predeceased by her husband John J. Bannon. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Bannon of Minnesota and John and his wife, Anna J. Bannon of West Cumberland; a granddaughter, Arya L. Poppena-Bannon of Florida.

At the family’s request all services will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 172 State Street, Portland, ME. To view Sybil’s memorial page, or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.
