Mark Roger Caron
PORTLAND – It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mark Roger Caron on May 1, 2023, at the age of 53.
He was born on May 1, 1970, to Mary Ann Cole and Conrad Roger Caron of Portland.
Mark grew up in the Deering Center neighborhood of Portland and graduated from Deering High School in 1988. After graduation, he attended the University of Southern Maine and graduated in 1992 with a degree in Business Administration. While at USM, Mark played baseball for Coach Flaherty who remained “Coach” his whole life. The 1991 team won Maine’s first College National Championship at the Division III College World Series, and this was one of his fondest memories. The team went 38-6 that year, a remarkable record. The friendship, team camaraderie, and lifelong connections were something Mark was so proud of. He would often joke and show up wearing his World Series ring and challenge anyone to have something as cool.
Mark had very successful businesses in Southern Maine. This included Lake Region Agency with his brother-in-law, Jeff Vermette, and the franchise for Elevation Burger with Christopher DiMillo. He also was the General Manager at DiMillo’ s Yacht Sales for three years.
The next chapter of Mark’s life brought him his greatest joy which was watching his daughter dance and go to college to pursue her passion. His “Dance Dad” skills were top notch and anyone who spent time with him could see how proud Mark was of her.
Mark loved spending time at Little Sebago Lake, a second home to him his whole life. Being there surrounded by family and friends filled his heart. Rides to Cocktail Cove, the big rock, endless tubing rides, and sunset cruises were a typical day at the lake, and everyone knew if we were there, they were welcome.
Mark is survived by the love of his life, his wife Donna, of 28 years; and his beloved daughter, Audrey Claire, 20, of Portland; his best friend and twin brother, Dana and his wife Sarah and daughter Callahan of Atlanta, Ga.; his twin sisters Connie Jean Caron of Gray and Mary Jane Vermette and her husband Jeff and daughter Anna of Windham; his aunt, Carol Cole and cousins Scott and Todd and their families of Louisiana; his aunt Beverly Caron and cousins Lisa, Eric and Craig and their families. He is also survived by his closest childhood friend and business partner, Christopher DiMillo.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, May 7 from 1-4 p.m. at Bruno’s Restaurant and Tavern, 33 Allen Ave. in Portland.
Life is short. Time is fast. No Replay. No Rewind. So, enjoy every moment as it comes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Ellie’s Legacy Animal Foundation. Rescuing dogs was so important to us and we hit the jackpot with Reno. Please consider a donation in Mark’s honor.
