GEORGETOWN – Anne Webster died peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023 from an extended illness. Her husband of 30 years and brother were by her side.

Anne was born on Sept. 7, 1947 to Sewall and Willetta Webster in Augusta. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1965 and went on to get a bachelor’s degree from Simmons College and a master’s in Social Science from University of Buffalo.

Anne served in many roles from a social worker in Harlem to a lobbyist in Boston. In later life she served in leadership positions that benefited communities around her.

Anne moved fulltime to Georgetown onto Indian Point in 1984 where she was semi-retired and worked with local conservation and historic preservation.

Anne’s love of Georgetown, the surrounding islands and their history led her to found Friends of Sequin (FOSILS), a non-profit organization to preserve and restore Sequin Island Lighthouse. For her service, in 2017 she received the Holland Award from the American Lighthouse Council – their highest lifetime honor for her pivotal role in preserving Sequin Light. Anne was “the force behind the 1996 Maine Lights Program” which laid the framework for the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act.

Anne was predeceased by her father, Sewall Webster Jr. and her mother, Willetta Webster (Billie).

She is survived by her husband, Troy Wallace; her brother, Clifford Webster and his wife Norah, and their three children, their daughters Leah Webster and Margaret Webster, and their son, Clifford Webster Jr., his wife Elizabeth and their two daughters, Oakes and Sylvie.

There will be a memorial service this summer at a time to be determined later.

Donations in her name may be made to the Georgetown Historical Society.
