Specialty food company Stonewall Kitchen will close its store in Portland’s Old Port by the end of the month, citing conflicts with upcoming renovations to the building, according to company officials.

The store’s building at 182 Middle St. will soon undergo a major renovation project that would shrink Stonewall’s retail space, making it untenable for the store to continue there. Company spokesman Jacob Ouellette said they hope to reopen a Portland store in the future, though there are no firm plans at this time.

“We love the Portland area and it has served us well for the 24 years we’ve been there, so finding a new location in Portland is our goal,” Ouellette said.

The company has 10 other Stonewall Kitchen store locations in New England. The Stonewall Kitchen Cooking School at the company’s York flagship location closed in December in part because the pandemic curbed public appetite for in-person cooking classes.
