I thank the Press Herald editorial board for “Our View: Lack of child care holding back children, parents – and Maine’s economy” (Jan. 29).

I worry about child care being too expensive. I worry that if I relocate, I won’t be able to find child care for my 1-year-old. My partner and I both work full time and have an annual income of $120,000. I literally do not know how the millions of parents nationwide who are less privileged than we are make it work.

If child care expense and availability is something that people who have enough money worry about, then it is a gigantic problem that we all must prioritize and fix.

The children being raised today are the ones who will be our doctors, plumbers, lawyers, teachers and Social Security contributors in 20 years. We would be fools to not ensure they are well cared-for.
