SACO — The Brunswick/Ararat girls volleyball team, seeded 11th, fell to No. 6 Thornton Academy, 3-0, in a Class A preliminary on Thursday.
The Dragons (3-12), in their fourth year of varsity play, made the postseason for the third consecutive season.
Thornton Academy (9-6) advanced with a 25-21, 25-13, 25-15 win and travels to No. 3 Gorham on Saturday.
Brunswick/Mt. Ararat had knocked off the Trojans, 3-2, on Oct. 19.
Olivia Hand led the way for the hosts, and Katie Leet-Ballard contributed several key digs in the win.
Brunswick/Mt. Ararat was led by strong defense throughout the match as Kassidy Dixon had 12 digs, followed by Sabrina Cooper, Kathleen Trapp and Lauren Whitlock with six each. Chloe Coombs picked up seven digs and five kills.
Other standout performances for the Dragons were eight kills by Trapp, who played in her final game along with Whitlock, Dixon and Cooper. Naomi Martin finished with a match-high 25 assists, along with two aces and three kills.
Looking to the future, the Brunswick/Mt. Ararat jayvee squad went 10-4 this season.
