A partnership between merchants and businesses on upper Front Street in Bath is transforming parking spots into mini-parks during this summer’s Art Walk series. The Upper Front Street parklet will pop up in a different parking space each Art Walk, offering attendees the ability to rest on a bench, paint a picture, play a lawn game or chat with local artists.
The parklet concept originated in San Francisco where, for the length of on time on a parking meter, parking spaces were converted into much-desired mini-parks.
The initiative in Bath is being spearheaded by the founders of the coworking space Union + Co, working with regular Art Walk participants, Now You’re Cooking, Markings Gallery and Bath Printing Company.
Upper Front Street Parklet will pop up next Sept. 20. Café Crème, Front Street Barber Shop, and Union + Co will support Now You’re Cooking, Marking Gallery, Bath Printing Company and Art Walk by staying open for extended hours.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
