SACO — Developers anticipate a new ConvenientMD location in Saco by the end of the year.

ConvenientMD is a growing, for-profit chain of urgent care clinics based in Portsmouth. According to the ConvenientMD website, the chain has 17 locations in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts and several more in the works.

In January, developer Mammoth Acquisitions LLC, on behalf of tenant ConvenientMD, received a contract zone from the city to allow its plan to build an urgent care facility at the site of the former Rosa Linda’s Family Restaurant on Main Street, which closed in May.

The contract zone will allow the developer to move forward with a plan that includes 325 square feet of collective sign space in a zone that limits signs to 150 square feet, and a front setback of 15 feet in a zone that requires a 40-foot setback.

The former restaurant property at 506 Main St. was sold to Mammoth Acquisition Company, Inc. for $900,000 on June 27, according to an email from Diane Churchill who works in marketing and administration for Malone Commercial Brokers, the brokerage company for Mammoth. The existing 3,500-square-foot building will be demolished and a new 5,000-square-foot building will be constructed.

Michael Coffman, with Mammoth Acquisition Company, said the company is currently working on all the necessary requirements for demolition and construction with the city and hopes to begin work in the next week or two.

The new ConvenientMD clinic will be open, “Ideally by the end of the year,” he said.

Other ConvenientMD clinics in Maine are located in Bangor, Brunswick, Portland and Westbrook.

The urgent care centers are typically open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. The facilities treat illnesses like bronchitis and pneumonia and injures such as sprains and broken bones, and provide physicals, flu shots and other preventative care. Clinics offer X-ray and lab services, and in Maine and New Hampshire also offer commonly prescribed medications onsite.
