BUXTON — A close Board of Selectman’s race in Buxton has spurred requests for a recount vote on June 29.
There were six candidates running for two seats on the Buxton Board of Selectmen. Mark Blier was re-elected to the Board of Selectmen with 276 votes. Scott Warchol was elected to the board with 234 votes, filling a seat vacated by Clifford Emery.
Thomas Peters was one vote behind Warchol with 233 votes. Roger Tracy received 222 votes, Caleb Porter received 179 and Mark Smith received 26.
Under state law, a written request for a recount must be sent to the town clerk within seven days after the election.
Town Clerk John Meyers said candidates Tracy and Peters have asked for a recount.
The recount will be held at Buxton Town Hall at 9 a.m. on June 29, at which time votes for Blier, Peters, Warchol and Tracy will be recounted by individuals selected by the candidates.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
