TOPSHAM — Brunswick scored three runs in the third and fifth frames to take a 9-5 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference high school softball win over Mt. Ararat on Thursday.
The Dragons improved to 3-8 and head to Mt. Blue on Saturday at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, the Eagles fell to 1-11 and visits Lincoln Academy on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Brunswick jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Kelsey Sullivan scored on a two-out single by Alexis Guptill. Mt. Ararat tied the game in the first as the Eagles tallied on a bases-loaded walk.
The Dragons put together five hits in the third to grab a 4-1 lead, with Shea Sullivan (RBI double), Guptill (RBI single) and Riley McAllaster (RBI single) each driving in a run. Brunswick added a run in the fourth.
Amanda O’Neill doubled and later scored as the Eagles picked up two runs in the fourth to draw to 5-3.
But Brunswick extended out to an 8-3 advantage in the fifth, taking advantage of three Mt. Ararat errors.
Shea Sullivan earned the win, allowing seven hits and five walks. Camille Rowe and Megan Reed shared the pitching duties for the Eagles.
Guptill and Kelsey Sullivan led the offense with three hits each, while Shea Sullivan reached base five times.
Jaden Lohr paced the Eagles with three hits. Bella West singled and doubled.
Morse 15, Freeport 0
The host Shipbuilders pounded out 17 hits for the mercy-rule win in Bath in Class B South action.
Morse (8-4) scored five runs in the first and seven in the third to take control. Dory Kulis came up a double short of the cycle and drove in three runs, while Paige Faulkingham had four hits, including a double, and four RBIs. Anastasia Alaboudi (three singles, two RBIs), Brook Kulis (two singles), Abby Carpenter (two singles, RBI), Kaylee Creamer (single), Julia Goddard (single) and Halle Johnson (single) also contributed.
Dory Kulis picked up 13 strikeouts for the mound win. She allowed just two hits, both to Alexa Koenig (double, single). Koenig and Brook Pawlowski pitched for the Falcons, who fell to 5-7 and hosts Poland on Monday at 4 p.m.
Morse returns to action Monday at Gray-New Gloucester (4 p.m.).
Baseball
BATH — Shea Wagner tossed a complete game to power Freeport to a 3-2 Class B South win over Morse at Kelley Field.
Wagner allowed six hits, walked two and struck out eight.
Jackson Walker was solid for Morse (8-5), going the distance on 10 strikeouts and five walks. He permitted just three hits.
Shea Wagner, Gabe Wagner and Liam Holt (RBI single) each had a hit for Freeport. Morse’s Asa Hodgdon was the lone repeat hitter, launching a solo home run and singling. He scored both Shipbuilder runs. Ty Knowlton, Austin Magliozzi (RBI), Walker and Gabe Aucoin each singled.
Freeport hosts Poland on Monday (4 p.m.), while Morse visits Gardiner on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
