ALFRED — York County Shelter Programs in Alfred has been awarded a one-year grant of $20,000 from United Way of York County.

YCSP Director Bob Dawber said half of the grant will go towards psychiatric services for homeless adults who do not have health insurance; the other half will go to YCSP’s food pantry.

“We are so grateful to receive this support from United Way,” said  Dawber. “They have been a longtime supporter of our agency, and this grant money will go a long way towards helping the people we serve.”

YCSP offers a comprehensive range of services to homeless individuals and families Besides emergency shelter, YCSP provides addiction and mental health treatment and services, job training, and help finding permanent housing. YCSP also has a food pantry that serves thousands of people every month.

The United Way of York County, which receives donations from individuals, businesses and organizations, “invests” in community programs such as YCSP. This year the United Way is assisting 58 programs.

“Thanks to the generosity of those who support United Way’s work throughout the year we are able to provide continued and much needed support for essential and direct human services right here in our county,” said United Way of York County President Barbara Wentworth.
