GORHAM — The 25th annual C-U Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge, to be held Jan. 27 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham, and is seeking more teams for all divisions.
The event is Maine’s longest, continuous-running, 3-on-3, co-ed, charity basketball tournament, according to its sponsor, Town & Country Federal Credit Union.
The are three adult divisions, Elite, Just For Fun and for ages 40 and over, Forever Young. Junior divisions are fifth- and sixth grade and middle school.
“It only takes three players to get a team together, as long as one of them is a member of the opposite sex,” Jon Paradise, vice president of public relations and communications at Town & Country and the founder of the tournament, said in a press release.
Deadline for team registration is Monday, Jan. 21. Email jon.paradise@tcfcu.com, call 553-5335 or go to the Swish-Out Childhood Cancer Challenge page on Facebook to register or for more information.
Last year, the tournament had nearly 60 teams (a sold-out field) participate and raised more than $55,000 for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. Since it started, the tournament has raised $480,000 for children with cancer.
