BIDDEFORD — The top seed in any tournament will usually spend at least the first few games on their home field. Unfortunately for the No. 1 Kennebunk Rams, last week’s bad weather forced their Class B South football semifinal to be moved from KHS down the road to Waterhouse Field.
It turns out the Rams felt right at home at the historic stadium in Biddeford.
Kennebunk jumped out to a 28-0 halftime lead and never looked back as the Rams cruised to a 42-8 win over No. 4 Greely on Saturday afternoon.
The Rams would get a 3-yard run from Dante DeLorenzo and a 14-yard score from Derek Smith in the opening quarter to take a 14-0 lead.
Alden Shields scampered for a 47-yard TD run and Smith added another score in the second to make it 28-0 at the break.
The Rams added a 56-yard touchdown run from Smith and a 3-yard scoring scamper from Cam Lovejoy in the third as they went up 42-0.
Greely (5-5) avoided the shutout when Joey Cassella scored on a 2-yard run late in the game.
Smith led Kennebunk with 118 rushing yards and three scores on just seven carries. DeLorenzo ran the ball 13 times for 104 yards and one score.
Kennebunk will host No. 2 Marshwood on Friday night with the Class B South regional title on the line. The Rams are planning on playing the game at Kennebunk High School, but the weather could once again force them to move to Waterhouse. The final decision will be made later in the week, according to Kennebunk Athletic Director Joe Schwartzman.
