FREEPORT — The Boy Scouts, Webelos, and Cub Scouts of Freeport and Pownal are teaming up again to collect non-perishable food, personal care items and paper goods for the Freeport Community Services Food Pantry located at 53 Depot ST. in Freeport. The food pantry serves both Freeport and Pownal residents.

During the weekend of Nov. 3, Scouts placed flyers detailing the event in collection bags on their neighbors’ door knobs throughout Freeport and Pownal.  On Saturday, Nov. 10, residents will place their donated items in the collection bags and leave them outside their door.  From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Scouts will collect the bags and arrive with donations at the food pantry.  Additionally, the Scouts have a presence at Shaw’s this year where they will be collecting donations from store patrons. Last year the Scouts collected over 3,000 pounds of food during this event, almost doubling the previous year’s donations.

This food drive is a key event that helps fill Thanksgiving baskets.
