ARUNDEL — Law enforcement officials say an allegedly impaired driver with a suspended license narrowly missed hitting a York County Sheriff’s deputy conducting a traffic stop on Thursday night.
Lindsey Richards of Saco, 36, was taken into custody and charged with operating under the influence, operating after suspension, driving to endanger and violating conditions of release from a prior charge.
York County Sheriff William King said Arundel Contract Deputy Chris Woodcock had stopped a vehicle on the Biddeford Road in Arundel around 9:30 p.m. for having a loud exhaust and a tail light out.
“While interacting with the driver, another vehicle passed dangerously close to the deputy as he was interacting with the stopped motorist,” said King in a statement. “Deputy Woodcock estimates that Richards’ vehicle came ‘within inches’ of his legs.”
Woodcock terminated the original stop and caught up with Richards on Biddeford Road in Lyman.
Richards was taken to the York County Jail in Alfred, where she is held on $800 bail.
