HARPSWELL

A Massachusetts man has died from injuries he suffered after slipping and falling from a ledge in Harpswell Friday night.

Cundy’s Harbor Rescue and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office responded to 118 Brick Yard Cove Road shortly before 8 p.m. to help a man who had fallen off a ledge and was not breathing. They arrived to find that 62-year-old John Bernadi of Sherborn, Mass., had fallen approximately 25 feet after slipping off a ledge. He struck his head on a rock before landing in the water.

Bernadi was visiting with friends at the residence where he fell. The friends witnessed the fall and provided emergency first aid including CPR, and were able to get him breathing again.

Cundy’s Harbor Rescue transported Bernadi to Maine Medical Center with a life threatening head injury. He remained in the intensive care unit Saturday morning but shortly before 2 p.m., the sheriff’s office said he’d succumbed to his injuries.

According to the sheriff’s office, the incident is not suspicious and appears to be a tragic accident.
