A celebration and open house for the Carters and their new home is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at 743 Quarry Road in Wells. Following the dedication ceremony, participants are invited to tour the new energy-efficient three-bedroom home.

“The passion, commitment and generosity of the community of organizations and individuals came together to make the dream of safe, affordable homeownership a reality for the Carter family,” said Amy Nucci, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of York County. “The project has been bittersweet since the passing of Dakota, the family’s 10-year-old son, in February due to complications from a rare genetic disorder.”

Nucci said everyone involved in fundraisers to help pay for costs associated with the project deserve praise, especially members of the public that turned out for the “Walk to Raise the Roof in Wells” and the “Quarry Road Build.”

Nucci said they are looking forward to giving Charlie, Shannon and Jorndan Carter a warm welcome to Wells and their new home.

All Habitat homeowners contribute a minimum of 400 hours of “sweat equity” working on the construction of their homes and the homes of others and participated in educational programs designed to strengthen the entire family and help to ensure their success as new homeowners.

The new homeowners will make monthly payments on an affordable mortgage, which in turn will go toward building more Habitat homes in York County.

Habitat for Humanity York County’s 29th home-building project is scheduled to begin in the fall at 9 Kirk St. in Springvale and “A Walk to Raise the Roof in Springvale” fundraiser will be held later this summer.

According to Nucci, many merchants and organizations made significant contributions to helping build the Carters’ new residence.
