WELLS — Wells Elementary School fourth-grade student Nathan Bohn was recognized for his art, a mask, in the category of Mixed Media and Sculpture by the Maine Art Education Association at the Portland Museum of Art in March.

His in-class creation was titled “Mask for More Than One Way to Tell a Story.”

Bohn, along with other Kindergarten through Grade 12 art students representing many Maine schools were selected by their art teachers to attend the evening event.

They were recognized for their art work with a certificate and a pin in front of a large audience in the museum’s auditorium.

Students and their families were able to view the special art exhibit displaying their work, an exhibit that that was featured for most of March in celebration of Youth Art Month.

The teachers who selected the students for this honor are MAEA members.

Bohn was selected by WES art teacher Sandy Brennan.

“Nathan is a model art student, he loves learning about art and trying new techniques,” Brennan said. “He perseveres when things are difficult and keeps a positive attitude.  He’s a joy to have as a student.”

This year, Brennan has 504 pre-Kindergarten through fourth-grade students.

Bohn, who represented that entire group, said that his work was constructed over a few weeks in class.

For the past 24 years, this annual reception and exhibit in Portland has been sponsored by the MAEA and the museum.
