PORTLAND
The Angell Open, Maine’s richest tennis tournament, concluded Sunday with the semifinals and finals in six divisions at The Racket and Fitness Center.
The men’s 45-and-over division was won by Rogier Henny of Portland over Brian Mavor of Windham, 6-3,6-2, while the men’s 55s went to Ronald Ciccone of Brunswick over Tom Gross of Portland in a tough three-set match, 4-6,6-0,6-3.
This Angell Open is named for Chris Angell who in spite of a life long struggle with schizophrenia, became Maine’s top-ranked men’s open player in 2010 and 2011.
This tournament, along with the Chris Angell Junior Fall Tournament in Ellsworth, raises money for research, advocacy and support for serious mental illness.
