The Bowdoin College men’s lacrosse team pulled away in the second half for an 18-9 victory over Clark University on Tuesday evening at Whittier Field.
The Polar Bears, who outscored the Cougars 10- 2 in the second half, won their fifth straight overall and now stand at 5- 2 this spring. Clark dropped to 4-3.
Bowdoin scored the first three goals of the game, including two from Matthew Crowell, to take an early lead in the opening quarter. Clark outscored Bowdoin 3-1 over the final 3:10 of the first quarter to close the gap to 4- 3 and tied the score just 1: 36 into the second quarter on Chris Rasco’s second goal of the contest.
The teams traded goals for the remainder of the second quarter as Bowdoin owned an 8-7 lead at intermission.
The Cougars tied the score again just 45 seconds into the third quarter before Bowdoin began its game-winning surge. Bowdoin rolled off seven straight goals to take command of the game, scoring four times in the final 6: 03 of the third quarter and three more times in the opening minutes of the fourth.
After Donal Mullane scored his second goal of the game with 8: 45 remaining, Bowdoin had opened a 15-8 lead.
Conor Khung stopped the bleeding for Clark with a goal at 5: 54, but Bowdoin scored the final three goals of the fourth quarter to cap the win.
Clark netminder Nathan Maselek stopped eight shots in the opening half and finished with 13 saves. Bowdoin’s John Young posted eight saves. Sam Carlin won 17- of- 28 faceoffs in the victory for Bowdoin.
Jimmy Young led all scorers with two goals and four assists for Bowdoin. Crowell totaled four goals and an assist for the Polar Bears, while Jef f Powers and Mullane had three goals each.
Chris Rasco led Clark with a hat trick.
Bowdoin finished with a 53- 30 advantage in shots, including a 29- 8 edge in the second half thanks to 10-of-14 wins in the faceoff dot.
Bowdoin returns to NESCAC action Saturday at home against Trinity at 1 p.m.
Baseball change
The three- game NESCAC East Division series between Bowdoin and Bates has been relocated to Colby College in Waterville this weekend.
The Polar Bears and Bobcats will play at 3 p.m. Friday followed by a doubleheader Saturday beginning at noon.
