BRUNSWICK

The Morse High School girls swimming team had a banner day in the State Class B Swimming Championships at Bowdoin College on Monday.

The Shipbuilders claimed fourth overall with 213 points, with Cape Elizabeth racking up 351 points for the title, followed by Greely (335) and Mt. Desert Island (223).

However, Morse had a day in the pool, with several Shipbuilders winning their events.

The day started well, with Morse capturing the title in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:50.18. The foursome of Ella Martin, Haily Harper, Olivia Harper and Leah Totman gave Morse the early lead.

Haily Harper earned third in the 200 IM (2:14.93), and Ella Martin took second in the 50 freestyle (24.48).

After diving, which was won by Greely’s Julia Bisson, Olivia Harper touched first in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 56.35 was just ahead of Ava Sealander of George Stevens Academy.

Ella Martin claimed third in the 100 free (53.35), while the same foursome that swam the winning 200 medley relay was the runners-up in the 200 free relay to Cape Elizabeth. The Shipbuilders touched in 1:41.03.

Olivia Harper returned to the pool and captured her second individual state title of the day, winning the 100 backstroke in 54.64, outdistancing Cape’s Caroline Mahoney by nearly two seconds.

There was one more Morse champion, as Haily Harper won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.82. Totman was fourth in the event (1:13.38).

Cape Elizabeth finished strong, winning the 400 freestyle relay, with Greely in second. The Morse squad of Delaney Young, Jac Ribota, Zenaide McCarthy and Anastasia Alaboudi was 10th in 4:36.28.

Class A Girls

ORONO — Cony cruised to the State Class A title at the University of Maine, picking up 280 points, with Scarborough in second with 259. Falmouth (226.50), Kennebunk (218) and Bangor (214) rounded out the top five.

Brunswick finished 10th with 81.50 points, while Mt. Ararat was 15th with 53 points.

Alex Morse had a solid day for the Dragons, claiming fourth in both the 200 IM (2:20.47) and 500 freestyle (5:30.83).

Other Dragons earning points were the 200 medley relay team of Morse, Ella Tycz, Anna Rider and Laura Chavoustie (10th, 2:01.09), Mallory Palmer (50 free, 14th, 27.11), the 200 freestyle team of Rider, Elina Woolever, Tycz and Palmer (12th, 1:51.10), Sophie Blair (100 back, tie for 16th, 1:08.39), and the 400 freestyle squad of Palmer, Chavoustie, Woolever, Morse (10th, 4:04.17).

Mt. Ararat’s Cora Spelke also earned a fourth-place finish, swimming strong in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.85. Spelke was also 16th in the 200 IM (2:10.36).

Eagles Madeline Svetin (100 butterfly, 11th, 1:06.49) and Anna Harbo (500 free, ninth, 5:44.08), earned points, along with the 200 freestyle relay team of Spelke, Abigail Anderson, Svetin and Madigan Saunders (10th, 1:50.32) and the 400 relay foursome of Svetin, Saunders, Harbo and Spelke (13th, 4:07.06).

Indoor Track

GORHAM — The State Class A Indoor Track Championships were held Monday at the University of Southern Maine, with Mt. Ararat and Brunswick tracksters in action.

The Mt. Ararat boys had a solid day, taking fourth with 31 points. Scarborough won the title, racking up 79 points on the day, ahead of runners-up Deering (66 points) and third-place finisher Thornton Academy (47).

Eagles long-distance runner Lisandro Berry-Gaviria followed up his solid Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference performance with two big wins. He was first in the one-mile run (4:22.72), along with earning the top spot in the two mile, with his time of 9:58.80 the only one to break the 10-minute mark.

Dalton Streeter scored in three events for Mt. Ararat (seventh, 55 hurdles, 8.43; fourth, long jump, 20-04.25; fifth, triple jump, 39-10.25), while other Eagles with points were Jason Halliday (sixth, 55 dash, 6.79) and Tyler Bernier (seventh, 400, 53.27).

Brunswick was 11th with 17 points. High-jumper Samuel Cenescar was second to Scarborough’s Anthony Clavette, clearing the bar in 6-02 compared to a 6-04 leap from Clavette. Cenescar was also sixth in the long jump (20-00.50).

Hunter Parker was sixth in the 400 (53.17) and Ryan Olson finished in a tie for third in the high jump (5-10).

In the girls meet, Cheverus and Scarborough ended up in a tie with 67 points for the top spot. Gorham was third with 41 points, while Bonny Eagle (34) and South Portland (32) rounded out the top five.

Mt. Ararat’s 15 points were good for 13th, while Brunswick was 22nd with one point.

Isabella Pols earned the lone point for the Dragons, finishing seventh in the one mile in 5:39.32.

Katherine Leckbee was third for Mt. Ararat in the two-mile run (11:43.02) and ran the second leg of the 4 x 800 relay that claimed second behind Gorham. Leckbee was joined by Eagles Rebecca French, Josie Miller and Sara York in picking up eight points.

Hope Langworthy was seventh for Mt. Ararat in the pole vault (8-06).
