
Durham is welcoming a new fire chief. Joseph Moore is starting in his new position March 1.
According to the town news release, Moore began his career as a volunteer EMT in his hometown of Union, Maine.
He has an associate’s degree in Advanced Emergency Care and is trained through Excelsior College with a focus in nursing, in addition to certifications and qualifications in instruction, command and emergency management in EMS firefighting.
Moore’s career spans 22 years in fire and emergency services in Maine, serving the Rockland Fire/EMS as a Firefighter, EMT and Paramedic. Moore was most recently a flight medic with Lifeflight of Maine in Bangor.
Moore succeeds former Fire Chief William “Bill” St. Michel, who joined the department in 1973 and was chief for 25 years.
