
Last week a group of Westbrook police officers traveled to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia to participate in the annual Wreaths Across America event to honor officers who have died. From left, Officer Richard Alexander, Chief Janine Roberts and Sgt. Anthony Ciampi on Dec. 16 laid wreaths at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial on the remembrance panels of Westbrook officers who have died. Wreaths were laid for Chief Pierre “Pete” Harnois, who died in the line of duty on May 14, 1959, and FOR Officer Perley Kennie, who died Aug. 11, 1966, of a heart attack on the job. A wreath was also laid at the panel for Portland Sgt. Richard Betters, who died on the job Jan. 14, 2009.
