Editor,
Maine’s Senators Angus King and Susan Collins, understand the importance of conserving our natural resources, reducing carbon pollution, and growing our economy to benefit all of us.
Let’s thank both senators who voted “NO” on Oct. 19 to opening up our vast Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. That’s 12 billion barrels of crude oil we don’t need.
But they shouldn’t have to vote on every land lease. Congress should stop subsidizing fossil fuels that cause climate change and allow the market to enable cheap, clean renewable energy and the growing economy they are already delivering.
Please join our non-partisan York County Citizens Climate Lobby group (www.citizensclimatelobby.org) and support a Carbon Fee & Dividend policy that will slow climate change, add two million jobs and pay a monthly cash dividend to every household. It is also promoted by George Schulz, Jim Baker and their conservative Climate Leadership Council (www.clcouncil.org).

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
