The Bowdoin College men’s golf team placed fifth of nine teams at the rain-shortened University of Southern Maine Fall Classic on Sunday.
The Polar Bears shot a team total of 321 on Sunday before rain canceled day two of the tournament. Bowdoin finished just three shots off of fourth-place Wentworth. Husson claimed first with a team score of 286 to win by 28 strokes.
Jackson Harrower again led the Polar Bears by shooting a 78 to finish in a tie for 14th place, followed by Tom Dunleavy and Tyler Chonoles, who tied for 22nd with identical 80s.
Michael Donovan (30th, 83) and Eric Giesler (36th, 85) rounded out the Bowdoin entrants.
Bowdoin will close out its season on Saturday at the CBB Championship, hosted by Colby at the Waterville Country Club.
Women’s golf
Bowdoin closed out its season with a fifth-place finish at the NESCAC Tournament recently at Taconic Golf Club.
The Polar Bears finished with a two-day total of 700 strokes, just 21 strokes off the pace of fourth-place Hamilton.
Caroline Farber recorded a top-10 finish, shooting a 78-82 to end at 160, just 13 strokes off the winning total.
The next three Bowdoin finishers ended in 21st-23rd as Diya Chopra (178), Emme McCabe (179) and Haley Friesch (183) all ended within five strokes over the course of two days.
Flaharty
Bowdoin sophomore Caroline Flaharty has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week.
Flaharty was dominant in a pair of key NESCAC road wins for the Polar Bears. At Trinity, she recorded 12 kills and had seven digs in a 3-0 sweep.
In a five-set comeback win at Amherst, she notched a career-high 26 kills against just two errors, hitting .393 and earning 12 digs as the Polar Bears claimed a 3-2 victory.
For the week, she averaged 4.75 kills and 2.38 digs per set while hitting at a .365 clip. She currently stands second in the NESCAC in total kills (191) and fifth in kills/set (3.35).
Flaharty and the Polar Bears will travel to Bates tonight (7 p.m.) for their annual non-conference meeting with the Bobcats before returning home on Saturday for Senior Day against Middlebury at 1 p.m.
