Warden service seeks pair of men in Gorham shooting

2 min read

GORHAM — Wardens from the Maine Department of Fisheries & Wildlife believe they have identified two men who fled the scene of a hunting-related shooting in Gorham Monday.

An unidentified 55-year-old Casco man was hunting pheasant off Route 237 in Gorham just before 8 a.m. Oct. 2 when he was allegedly wounded by a shotgun loaded with bird shot, according to a press release from Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service.

The two men associated with the shooting are now “cooperating fully” and wardens are working with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office on the case, McDonald said Tuesday.

However, neither the two men nor the man who was wounded have been identified by the Warden Service.

The stretch of Route 237 in Gorham where the incident took place is also known as Mosher Road. The shooting happened across from Shaw Brothers Construction.

The man, who had a “brief interaction with the two men after he was shot,” was being treated at Bridgton Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries Monday, MacDonald said.

An update from the Warden Service Tuesday said that the man shot in the face was “recovering well.”

Wardens say the two men wanted in relation to the shooting “quickly fled the area” after the incident.

Authorities put out a call for help in identifying the men based on witness descriptions and the green truck they were seen driving.

According to the wardens, witnesses described one of the men who left the scene as tall with black hair and glasses. The other was described as average height and heavy set with a “dirty blond mustache.”

The Gorham Police Department also assisted in the investigation.
