TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat seventh-grade boys soccer team opened its season on Monday by battling to a 2-2 tie at home against Tripp Middle School.
The first half saw the Eagles struggle to keep possession of the ball in the offensive end, and a couple of defensive miscues led to a halftime deficit of 2-0.
The second half saw Mt. Ararat bounce back with some solid play in the midfield by Brady Merrill, Sam Dube, Jonathan Hole and Caleb Chamberland.
Ewan Alexander finally broke through for the Eagles with their first goal in the 53rd minute, followed by his second goal of the contest in the 55th minute.
Nick Picard and Tyler Berry were standouts on defense, while Tyler Berry and Jackson Byrne shared time in goal, each making key saves along the way.
The Eagles had several opportunities in the closing minutes to secure the win, but saw many shots sail wide, high, or hit posts, and had to settle for a 2-2 tie.
Next up for the Eagles is at Oxford Hills this upcoming Monday.
