As regular visitors from Canada and now competitors in your beautiful area, we just can’t speak highly enough for how Old Orchard Beach (and the entire connected areas) was represented through the recent Ironman Maine 70.3 triathlon event.
I’m not sure if area residents know the outstanding level of quality and experience the organizing team was able to deliver to the 2,300-plus event participants. So many people were able to experience the accomplishment of huge personal goals all in the beautiful surroundings of Saco Bay.
While I have heard some rumblings about traffic and the occasional “honk” on the roadways, those were more than drowned out by the enthusiastic cheers contributed by local volunteers who were the real champions of the event.
We loved vacationing in your area and challenging ourselves on your beaches, roads and trails — the quality of the experience was just as special as advertised. The hardest part is having to wait to come back.
Thanks to your entire community for the unforgettable memories.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
