SANFORD — With fall approaching and a chill in the air, foods like chili and chowder return to the menu.
On Sept. 8, folks can sample the area’s best, when the Sanford Elks Lodge, 13, Elm St. hosts its annual Chili and Chowder contest. the event begins at 5 p.m. and winds down around 8:30 p.m.
Chefs from area restaurants and organizations take part, vying for bragging rights to the best in the area.
Proceeds from the event benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program.
Among the vendors taking part are Backstreet Grill, Mill 67, Sanford Campus of Southern Maine Health Care, Wolves Social Club, Iron Tails Saloon, Palmerosa Pines, Thjrd Alarm Diner, Varney Crossing, Moe’s Italian Sandwiches and Sweet Memories Restaurant, according to Elks officials.
Folks cast your vote for the People’s Choice Awards.
Organizers say besides the great food, folks can take a chance or two with Bucket Raffles or take part in the live auction.
Elks say a suggested donation of $10 per person is appreciated.
