BRUNSWICK — On Aug. 27, three hundred and two people gathered at First Parish Church, United Church of Christ, Brunswick, to celebrate the congregation’s 300th Anniversary.
Letters of proclamation and appreciation from The Town of Brunswick, Bowdoin College and U.S. Senator Angus King were shared with the congregation. In addition, a fiber art mural celebrating this anniversary, by local artist Catherine Worthington, was unveiled.
To commemorate the first public worship on Aug. 25, 1717, about two hundred and fifty people walked down Maine St. to the Brunswick 250th Anniversary Park. This is approximately the location of that first gathering. After a brief service at the park, all were invited back to the mall for gelato and trolley rides.
“It was a joyous occasion,” Senior Pastor Rev. Mary E. Baard said. “We give thanks for those who have gone before us and we hope to be a blessing to the community for generations to come.”
