WESTBROOK — Local business owner and former mayoral candidate James Tranchemontagne has been issued a criminal summons after getting into a dispute with a neighbor.

Tranchemontagne, 43, was charged with criminal mischief on Aug. 21 on Duck Pond Road. According to Westbrook Police Capt. Sean Lally, Tranchemontagne allegedly damaged his neighbor’s fence.

“There was probable cause to charge him based on the allegation that he damaged the fence,” Lally said.

Tranchemontagne is the owner of the Frog and Turtle restaurant on Bridge Street in Westbrook. He unsuccessfully ran for mayor in 2013 and 2016. When asked about the Aug. 21 incident, Tranchemontagne told the American Journal “there is no story.”

“There is a neighbor that is difficult because she doesnt like our garden, two pigs and chickens,” he said in an email.

According to Lally, the District Attorney will review the case and decide whether to prosecute Tranchemontagne.
