The Bowdoin International Music Festival’s 53rd season closes Friday with Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto, June Han returns to the stage to share English composer Arnold Bax’s Quintet and Joseph Kalichstein’s interpretation of Beethoven’s final piano concerto — a work he first performed in 1970 and has been performing around the world ever since.
Joseph Kalichstein performs throughout the United States and Europe, winning praise as orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician. With a repertoire of works ranging from Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms to 20th-century music by Bartók, Prokofiev and others, Kalichstein has collaborated with such conductors as Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, James Conlon, Christoph von Dohnányi, Charles Dutoit, Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, Leonard Slatkin, Edo de Waart, David Zinman and Lawrence Foster.
“It has been an incredible 53rd season for the Festival,” said Casey Oakes, BIMF director of marketing and communications. “All of our successes this summer have been building to this final performance. We are thrilled to present Joseph Kalichstein and the Festival Orchestra to close out our season with an unforgettable finale.”
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. in Brunswick High School’s Crooker Theater Friday.
