BIDDEFORD — Hamburger lovers rejoice, and mark your calendars. Five Guys — the eatery chain that specializes in burger, fries and shakes — is set to open on Monday.

The official Five Guys Biddeford Facebook page stated in a post on Aug. 1, “Can I have your attention please!? The moment you have all been waiting for! We will have our grand opening in Biddeford on Monday August 7th!”

Comments on the post expressed overwhelming excitement, with dozens of users tagging their friends to inform them of the news.

By noon Wednesday, the post had nearly 300 shares.

The fast-casual restaurant is opening slightly earlier than expected. It was set to open sometime during the second week of August in the plaza at 580 Alfred St., along Route 111, said franchisee Gene Prentice late last month.

According to city documents, Lingle Design Group, a Lena, Illinois-based design firm, submitted an application to the city for the construction of the 2,630-square-foot eatery on Feb. 14.

Currently, five other Five Guys locations can be found throughout Maine, with eateries in Portland, South Portland, Bangor, Brunswick and Augusta.

The Biddeford location was initially slated to open in June, Prentice said in March, but work on the building’s design caused the opening to be pushed back a few months,. Prentice said they wanted to “make sure we did everything right.”

On Wednesday, workers could be seen moving boxes around inside the new building. Prentice said he’s pleased by the hype surrounding the upcoming opening and he expects things to be busy once they open, like most Five Guys joints.

“We don’t have any set numbers, but we’re easily expecting to be on queue with the national average of customers,” Prentice said.

Five Guys won’t be the only eatery opening soon along Alfred Street.

An 1,800-square-foot Starbucks at the Five Points intersection is still under construction, as is a $506,332 combination Taco Bell and Jiffy Lube at 460 Alfred St., directly next to Amato’s Sandwich Shop.
